From Swamp to an Esplanade! Is this where the Rio Del Martians came from?
An afternoon stroll focusing on the mouth of Aptos Creek and the stories of the people whose imprints can still be seen. If you know where to look. Beginning with the Aptos Indians who frequented the original lagoon, we will illuminate the secrets of this storied location. From Claus Spreckels to the 1920s developers whose fingerprints can still be seen, with maps and historic photographs, we will bring this often misunderstood location alive.
Distance: Approximately 3 miles. Participants will need to be able to climb stairs. Pace will be gentle.
Meeting Place: A map and directions will be sent to registered participants prior to June 19.
Suggestion: Why not make Dad's Day complete by making reservations at a nearby Aptos restaurant for a Father's Day dinner? Don't make reservations for before 6:00 PM to be on the safe side. We might dawdle here and there during the afternoon.
Moms are welcome to join us, of course, but the walk and subject matter are not appropriate for children under 18.
